The United States of America is celebrating Independence Day also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth. They liberated themselves from the British Empire in 1776 and regarded themselves a new nation.
The celebrations are filled with laughter, fireworks, food, music and people enjoying the day. It is for the day!
Freedom is what we all desire and rightly so.
We may associate freedom as being locked up in a prison cell or even in our own homes.
However, there are many who do not have the opportunity to enjoy freedom. Physically they aren’t locked up in a prison cell and are free to go about doing their daily business.
Additionally, there are those who experience being trapped and often locked up in their own minds. They would like to break out and do actually possess the key but just cannot find it All they need is someone to help them find it.
I hear people say they are stuck in a job they don’t enjoy. ‘It’s boring and I don’t see any future ahead’. There are ongoing conflicts in their relationships at home and work. Poor health and financial challenges can be very crippling. In fact, the list goes on. People feel stuck and seem to go around in circles. Sometimes they just give up and say ‘that’s life’. They rely on clichés to get them by.
I believe life is what we decide to make of it. Of course, afflictions and sufferings can sometimes happen due to no fault of our own. War, famine and natural disasters can impact human lives. And then we must help our fellow humans.
Everyone has the right to be and feel free. All that is needed, is the desire to find the key that unlocks the door of your mind.
Freedom is powerful and very liberating.
I was one of those guys who was stuck and felt like I had come to a cul-de-sac. I did not even how I got there in the first place.
On reflection, I mapped my way back to the route and realised my ignorance. I was confused and lacked clarity and made decisions that ultimately had a bad impact. It boiled down to the choices I was making along the way.
Start to become independent
The good news is that we can all experience our independence starting from today!
I realised I wasn’t going to make it on my own and needed help by stepping out of isolation. I started connecting with good people and friends who were genuinely interested in my wellbeing and ready to help. I found a mentor who I felt could trust and be accountable to.
The process began and I needed the discipline to stick with it. The process seemed long but I was beginning to feel the difference. The journey was enlightening as I moved forward each day one step at a time. Metaphorically speaking, those single steps towards independence turned into brisk walks, then onto jogging and finally into sprinting.
Of course, looking back I am in the best position in my life. I am enjoying a debt free and financially comfortable life. I am in good health and in loving and meaningful relationships. I celebrate my independence every day!
However, it doesn’t stop here. We need to continue nurturing and cherishing our freedom with a grateful heart.
You can achieve this too. Nothing or no one can stop you from gaining your independence except you.
